Summer of One

You know, it's great to be a One-year-old. The whole world is just so amazing and interesting, and you learn at least ten new things every day. Like, for instance, did you know that if you push the kitchen garbage can over, the lid will come off and garbage will go everywhere? It's awesome! Or how about that fantastic sound paper makes when you are ripping up one of Mom's favorite books? The best part is that when you are One, you haven't learned to be inhibited or influenced by what other people think. Wonder what rocks taste like? Go ahead! Try 'em!

Being One also means that you are not afraid to express your feelings. When you are happy, you should just smile with all of your teeth showing! And when you are mad, people need to know that too! Shriek and scream and let them know just how ticked off you really are! It's OK if people tell you to stop, just scream louder. They obviously haven't gotten the message yet.

You know what is even better than being One? Being One in the SUMMER! Because summer means going OUTSIDE where the bugs and grass and wind and dirt are. And if you are really lucky, Mom will get tired of you trashing her house and take you to The Park!

The Park is a truly wondrous place with a multi-colored house, and two slides, and lots of wood chips (though wood-chips are not recommended for eating; they don't taste very good...but you know, if you want to try them, go ahead! You might like them. Hey, maybe I should try them again, too...you never know.) And when you get bored with the slide, there are these great paths you can walk on. You can play this great game with Mom where you start running down the path away from the slides, and then she'll run after you and carry you back to the slide. And then you run again, and she carries you again. You can do this OVER and OVER until all of a sudden it's time to go home. It's a really cool game.

And at the end of a long day of pushing stuff over, eating stuff, shrieking, and running around the house 500 times, in the evening you get to sit back and relax with a nice cold sippy cup. That is, until somebody picks you up and throws you in the bathtub. You are only One, you know.
